Here are a few books I’m excited to have come across my desk this week:
Jane Austen, Game Theorist by Michael Suk-Young Chwe. I’ve heard it’s a unique perspective on Austen’s work, through the eyes of the many strategic interactions woven therein.
The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail – But Some Don’t by Nate Silver. Formerly of the 538 blog and NYTimes, and recently hired by ESPN, Silver discusses the shortcomings of many failed predictions, and the keys to improving them.
Simpler: The Future of Government by Cass Sunstein. This co-author of Nudge recently ran the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Obama administration, and describes the successful implementation of many (often Nudge-inspired) policies which both simplify government and help government run more efficiently.
