Priorities of Current U.S. Economic Policy

I’d like to share slides from a recent talk by the University of Oregon’s Mark Thoma. He is a respected economist, and his talk discusses three primary economic concerns:

  • inflation
  • the debt
  • unemployment

After discussing the implications of each issue, Thoma concludes that while inflation and the debt are issues which should be dealt with, the most pressing issue at present is to address unemployment. His slides are concise and use clear, easy to understand data. His stance on the state of the economy is the most reasonable one I’ve read – and I hope you’ll read it as well.
