Nudged into buying travel insurance

Presh Talwalkar has a great post breaking down the various nudges in online travel booking that encourage people to purchase travel insurance. Here’s his setup:

I was booking a flight on United.com when this came as an extra add-on:

The offer was convincing and I ended up buying the travel insurance.

I later did some comparison shopping and found bare bones coverage that would have suited me for $20 (from Assist-Card and comparing on insuremytrip.com).

So why did I fall for the offer? I think there are 4 ways the offer nudged me into saying “yes.”
